Many people have written to us saying, “I’ve tried everything I know, and I still have sickness and pain in my body. What can I do?” Let me begin by stating this: Divine healing is not a formula. Divine healing flows from an intimate relationship with the Lord. Relationship, not rules, is our key to healing. God wants everyone to receive healing just as He wants a deep relationship with each of us. He has not made it difficult to receive healing. But it does require being sensitive to the quiet instructions of the Holy Spirit. We receive His instructions during intimate times in the Lord’s presence. That’s what will lead us out of disease and into health. Our lives tend to be filled with noise and distractions, which drown out the Holy Spirit’s subtle leading unless we quiet our minds and surroundings. We all need daily, quality time in worship, prayer, and meditation in order to hear specifics regarding our health. Everything we receive from God comes through the help of the Holy Spirit. Because hearing from the Holy Spirit is so pertinent to receiving healing, and any other help, I began teaching on this subject in previous blogs. Let me repeat some key points here. Man is a spirit, though he lives in a body and has a mind and will. We were created in the image of God, and God is a spirit. God does not lead us through our soul or our body, because He is not a mind or a body. He always leads us through our spirit. Divine healing is not received in our mind or our body. It must be received in our spirit before it will flow to our body. Divine instructions that coach us in receiving healing don’t come through our soul or mind. So, to be led by the Spirit, we must learn to differentiate between the spirit and the soul. The spirit is the innermost part of man—the “real” man, who will live eternally. It is the spirit that becomes a new creation in Christ Jesus. The soul, however, comprises the mind, will, and emotions of man. It is not his innermost being at all. The soul is not saved when you become a new creation. Rather, the saving of the soul is a process, as James explains. Therefore, lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. James 1:21 NKJV You’ve probably heard testimonies of people receiving salvation in which many say something like, “So many souls were saved at the outreach last week.” Or “Our church has a great soul winning program.” We understand what is meant by such statements even though technically souls weren’t getting saved at those events, but spirits were. What did James mean by “save your souls” then? Keep in mind he was writing to BELIEVERS. Believers don’t need to get saved, since they already are. James was telling the early believers that they needed to get their minds (part of the soul) saved. And how is this done? By receiving “with meekness the implanted Word of God.” You see, the better you know the Word, and the more you have the Word in your heart, the better you will be led by the Spirit of God. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Rom 12:2 NKJV According to this verse, as your mind gets renewed to the Word of God, you will be able to determine what the will of God is. If you don’t renew your mind with God’s Word, however, you will become conformed to the world’s way of thinking. Unfortunately, many Christians think and talk like unbelievers—and wonder why they have the same troubles! I believe one of the greatest needs of the Church is to have minds renewed with the Word of God. Why? Because you can only be led by the Holy Spirit to the degree that your mind is renewed to His Word. Too often, people don’t renew their minds to God’s Word. Then, when they perceive something in their unrenewed minds, they mistake that for the leading of the Spirit. It is not! The leading of the Spirit comes through a person’s spirit. Confusing the mind and the spirit will lead a person astray. This has happened to all of us at one time or another. Here’s what I do. When I need clarity or direction from God, I double up on my time meditating on the Word, speaking it, and listening to messages on it. As I renew my mind to His Word, things become so clear to me! This is a supernatural process. You can’t figure out with your mind how you begin to know things clearly. You perceive it in your spirit. I heard the story of an evangelist who was preaching to large crowds every night in a country where the weather was very hot. After a few days, he began to get dizzy. So he spoke healing scriptures and thanked God for his healing. Yet the dizziness continued. What he did next illustrates the message I’m trying to get across. When things did not change, the evangelist spent extra time in the Word and presence of the Lord and asked Him what to do. What do you think happened? After he had quieted his mind, the man heard very clearly in his spirit, “Put a little more salt on your food.” He obeyed those instructions that were coming from his spirit. The dizziness disappeared! It was as simple as following the Holy Spirit’s instructions! You may be just one instruction away from receiving your healing today. I want to encourage you to never give in to the devil’s attempts to keep sickness on you. Instead, - Double up on your time meditating on the Word of God. - Double up on praying. - Give yourself time to get quiet in His presence and listen for the Lord’s quiet promptings or instructions. This is God’s way of leading you out of trouble and into victory. He made it simple to receive help so you can easily receive it. He loves you! Even before the foundation of the world, God’s plan was for us to live the best life! It was His will and He made all the arrangements! What is the best life? One that includes health, peace, and financial provision. However, many believers don’t know this basic truth about the good life God desires for His people. And for those of us who do know these truths, we still sometimes don’t walk in them as we should. If you are serious about living a life that includes all God has for you, read on. One of the first truths to understand is that God is not withholding any good thing from us. On the contrary, He helps us receive those good things. His help shows how much He wants us to receive His goodness! How does He help us receive? By giving us His Holy Spirit. His Spirit lives in born again believers and guides us into all that God has provided for us. The help that we need to receive—our Helper—is always with us! However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. John 16:13 NKJV Sometimes we face situations that stubbornly linger. What are we to do then? It’s simple. We just learn to be led by the Holy Spirit, because He always guides us into victory if we will listen and follow His promptings. Even if a situation lingers, our help from the Holy Spirit doesn’t stop. We simply keep following Him, and the situation will ultimately change. Sometimes a situation looks complicated. But again, all we need is the Holy Spirit’s simple instructions. For example, following a simple instruction from Him aids us in receiving healing even if it looks like a complicated situation. Now, although the Holy Spirit lives in us, we still must learn to be led by Him if we are to benefit from the Greater One’s help. I encourage you to read last week’s blog if you haven’t already, because in it I laid a foundation for how to be led by the Holy Spirit. Here is a quick recap: God is a spirit. He is not a mind or a body. Therefore, anything we receive from Him, we receive first in our spirits. For example, healing is always received first in your spirit, and then it permeates your body. This is why we shouldn’t ever check our bodies to determine if we are healed. We check our spirits, because God leads us through our spirits. The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, Searching all the inner depths of his heart. Prov 20:27 NKJV I believe one of the reasons many Christians aren’t led by the Spirit is that they are more conscious of their souls and bodies than they are of their spirit man. Being too body conscious means our spirits aren’t receiving as well as they could. We’re thinking about our bodies instead of the Word of God. It’s His Word alone that strengthens our spirits—the place where we receive! We can’t focus on the disease in our body or on the doctor’s report and simultaneously focus on God’s Word. One focus will hinder us from receiving healing, the other helps us receive it! Another hindrance to receiving is by letting the mental realm dominate. We become more mental conscious when we live out of the mental realm. Those who are more intellectual especially tend to lean on their understanding instead of on God’s Word. Their minds dominate their spirits. God said clearly that we shouldn’t lean on our understanding. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Prov 3:5-6 NKJV As we have seen, man is a spirit being. That’s why we need to be more spirit conscious. The more spirit conscious we are the more real God’s truths become to us. Here’s something that helps us understand this: · With my body, I contact the physical realm. · With my soul, I contact the emotional and intellectual realm. · With my spirit, I contact the spirit realm. Let’s look further at the difference between our soul and our spirit man. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Heb 4:12 NKJV If our spirit and soul can be divided, they cannot be one and the same. It’s also important to note that only the Word of God can divide what is of our soul and what is of our spirit. The reason why many believers make poor decisions is because they are basing those decisions on the reasoning of the soul and mind, instead of on the subtle guidance of the Holy Spirit in them. To receive guidance that leads us into victory—including healing—we must be sensitive to what the Spirit is saying to us or directing us to do. How do we become more spirit conscious? It’s simple: put spiritual things first! We do this by spending much time meditating on the Word of God and praying in the Spirit. When I need an answer, I have found that spending extra time in the Word and prayer helps me to become more spirit conscious and therefore to receive my answer in my spirit. I want to look a little here at the value of speaking in other tongues. Paul said something that brings clarity to this subject: For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 1 Cor 14:14 NKJV When you pray in tongues, it comes from your spirit. The Holy Spirit resides in your spirit and gives your spirit the utterance, and then you speak it out. This is why the understanding is unfruitful. The mind doesn’t receive anything from praying in tongues. But your spirit receives! When you pray in tongues your spirit bypasses your mind. Any leading you receive from God will always come through your spirit. The more active your spirit is, the more you will pick up what the Holy Spirit is saying to you. So, the more time you give to praying in other tongues, the more direction you receive from the Holy Spirit. You will sense something rising up from down in your spirit. You will begin to know what you should do—not because your mind figured it out, but because your spirit is enlightening you! It’s impossible to receive all God has for you without the Helper that He provided. And the more conscious you are of that Helper in you the more help you can have. In many of my messages, I’ve taught that we must fill our hearts with God’s Word and then act like it is true in our lives. However, for many people, sickness and disease seem to linger for far longer than it should. What do we do in a case like this? We must seek the Lord and listen for His direction regarding our individual situation. This is why it is critical that we learn how to be led by the Holy Spirit. If you are a born again Christian, you have a tremendous weapon at your disposal. You have a Helper living in you – One who leads and guides you and shows you things to come. He is the great and mighty Holy Spirit, and His job is to lead us into a victorious life that glorifies God. He will especially lead us into healing and health! A very important foundational truth to understand is that man is a three-fold being. Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness”… So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Gen 1:26-27 NKJV Because we have been made in the image and likeness of God, we are a spirit being. Jesus said in John 4:24 that God is a Spirit. God is not a mind and He is not a body. When God deals with us or heals us, it is always through our spirit. Too many people look to their bodies to see if they are healed. That is looking in the wrong place. We need to look to our spirits. Paul said this about man: …may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 NKJV Let’s look at this three-fold nature of man. 1. We are a spirit –this is the real man, the inward man, who lives eternally. Peter calls the spirit “the hidden man”. But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. 1 Peter 3:4 KJV In many places when the Bible speaks of the heart, it is speaking of the spirit. It is the spirit of man that is born again, not the mind or body. 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. We know that old things passing away could not be referring to the body because we look the same right after we’re saved as we did before. And it could not be referring to the mind, because we still have the same old way of thinking until we renew our minds. Need Healing? Here's Why You Must Be Led by the Holy Spirit This is talking about the spirit of man. The spirit of a born again man is where the Holy Spirit abides. This is where all direction from God comes from. It is important that we look to the inward man for direction and revelation, not the mind or the body. This is how so many believers miss it. They are looking to their emotions or thoughts to gain direction. However, your emotions and unrenewed mind will mislead you every time. 2. We have a soul – this is the mind, will and emotions. The spirit and the soul are NOT the same. Many Bible scholars have not seen this truth, and thought that they were one and the same. The soul and the spirit are so closely joined together that it can be difficult to discern the difference. Hebrews 4:12 says: For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, This verse reveals that the spirit and soul are separate aspects of man. It also shows us that only God’s Word can divide what is of the soul and what is of the spirit. Many times we can think we are hearing from God, but after extended time reading the Word of God and praying, it becomes clear what was God and what was our emotions or our own thoughts. 3. We live in a body – this is the house where our soul and spirit dwell and gives us access to the natural realm. Again, I want to emphasize that when God leads us, He leads through our spirit. The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, Searching all the inner depths of his heart. Proverbs 20:27 NKJV Every child of God can expect to be led by the Spirit of God. This is really just an introduction into a very important subject. Over the centuries, one of the things that has set the Church apart from the world is divine healing. Healing took place during the ministry of Jesus and was commonplace in the early Church. For several centuries, however, the revelation that God wants His people well was almost completely lost. Even after the healing revival of the 1940’s and 50’s, many people were still in the dark, not knowing that healing is the children’s bread. The devil has something to do with this. He doesn’t want people to receive divine healing, because it releases them from his grip on their lives. He tries every strategy to keep people from knowing that healing belongs to them, or to keep those who do know about healing from receiving it. I was in the first category, being raised in a denominational church that never taught divine healing. I didn’t ever hear of anybody being healed. One day that all changed. While I was in college, a close cousin shared with me that he had found a church where people were being healed! Curious to see for myself, I attended a service with him and saw that people really were getting healed. This was a dream come true for me. From that day until now, I have witnessed hundreds of healings, in other people, in my family, and in my own life. It’s too late to try to convince me that God no longer heals. Maybe you are reading this blog and hearing for the first time that God still heals. Continue reading, because what I’m about to share has the power to change your life! We know from the Bible that God always reveals to His prophets what He’s about to do in the earth. One of the most significant prophecies about the redemptive work of Christ is in the book of Isaiah. Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. Isa 53:1-5 NKJV The New King James translation subtitles this passage, “The Sin-Bearing Messiah.” Multiple New Testament passages confirm that the Isaiah 53 passage refers to Jesus. One is in Acts chapter 8, when Philip joined an Ethiopian eunuch who was reading from Isaiah 53. So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him. . . . So the eunuch answered Philip and said, “I ask you, of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?” Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him. Acts 8:30-31, 34-35 NKJV Let’s focus on verses 4 and 5 in the Amplified Classic. Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]. [Matt 8:17.] But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole. Isa 53:4-5 AMPC In this passage, we find three key things that Jesus provided for us in His redemption: 1. Jesus was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our guilt. The universal church agrees on this provision. As our substitute, Jesus paid the price for all our sins and He made it possible for us to live without guilt and shame. When we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we become born again: our spirit is made brand new and replaces our sin nature. 2. Jesus was chastised so that we could have peace and well-being. With this provision, Jesus paid the price for us to have a sound mind. The peace of God is part of our inheritance. In my opinion, this is the second most important benefit of redemption. Why? Because you can have a lot of great things in life, but without peace, you will not enjoy any of them. Furthermore, if you don’t have peace, you won’t receive bodily healing and live in health. I would highly recommend you get my book, Untroubled to help you further understand this wonderful provision. 3. Jesus took a brutal beating so that we could be healed and made whole. The third provision is that Jesus paid the price for us so that we no longer have to be sick or diseased. This was how God always intended man to live; there was no sickness in the garden of Eden that He created for Adam and Eve. It was only when they sinned and fell that sickness and disease were introduced—sin brought every cursed thing into the lives of people. But Jesus solved this problem! By conquering sin, Jesus also conquered sickness! This is what Isaiah saw when he looked ahead to Jesus’ sacrifice and prophesied that with His stripes, we ARE healed. Centuries later, when the apostle Peter looked back at the completed work of the cross, he changed the tense of that verb. …by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:24 Since we WERE healed, it is a finished work! Now it only needs to be received by faith. Are you ready and willing to believe these truths from the Word of God? If so, you are ready to receive your healing by faith today! I have observed that two things people strive for above anything else are life and health. Man continues the age-old search to find man-made remedies for sickness and disease. Billions of djollars are spent each year and thousands of lives are dedicated to find cures for various diseases that destroy the quality of people’s lives. But God already gave us the remedy for every sickness and disease when He sent His Son, Jesus In, into this world. Thank God, Jesus came to set us free from this suffering. God not only wants you to receive healing, but He also wants you to have a life that you enjoy. In His Word God has given us a four-step recipe for making His blessings a reality in our lives. Here is “God’s Recipe for Life and Health.” Let’s look at Proverbs 4:20-22: My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. Here are four critical steps we find in this passage: 1. Attend to My Words. God is telling us that we can only find a good life and health through His Word. The Bible also says that Jesus is the living Word of God. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Jesus said: I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10 NKJV Jesus didn’t come to give mankind new rules to climb a heavenly stairway. Or to give us a new code of conduct. Or more religion. No, Jesus came to bring LIFE – so we might have life more abundantly! This life only comes through the Word of God. Through the Word we discover we can be healed. Through it we discover we have authority over all the power of Satan. This is why we must give attention to these words if we want to enjoy the life and health that is in them. 2. Incline your ear unto My sayings. We must learn to open our ears to God’s sayings and to close our ears to everything else. Listen to what God has to say, not to the many voices in our world. - Doctor’s reports: they may make diagnoses according to their knowledge and training, but if it’s bad news, don’t accept it as the final word. - Well-meaning family and friends: they might think they’re giving advise that will help, but if it contradicts the Word of God, reject it. - Drug commercials or health articles: For people who are not depending on God, this is their only hope. But believers have a better remedy. Most people won’t know what you know from God’s Word, so they won’t have the faith to encourage you to believe what He says. Who you choose to listen to is a matter of life or death, health or sickness. So it’s vital to surround yourself with the right voices if you want to have a quality life. 3. Do not let God’s Word depart from your eyes. We are to look as well as listen. The Bible says to keep our vision fixed on Jesus. Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. Heb 12:2 AMPC How do we do this? By feeding upon the written Word of God. As we spend more time meditating in God’s Word, Jesus becomes more real to us. When it comes to healing, we must keep our eyes on the Word. For example, if symptoms attack my body, keeping my eyes on the Word is the only way to keep my attention off the symptoms. I will read and say healing scriptures out loud and picture myself with the healing that already belongs to me. Then I will lift my hands and worship the Lord because He is a wonderful Healer! Romans 4:19 tells us that Abraham considered the condition of his and Sarah’s bodies when it came to having a child in their old age. However, he did not focus on that. We must develop our faith to the place where we no longer consult our bodies to determine if God’s Word is true. Hebrews 3:1 tells us what we should consider: Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus. We consider Jesus by focusing on what God’s Word says! 4. Keep God’s Words in the midst of your heart. Walking in life and health always starts in your heart (your spirit). You must believe in your heart that you are healed before you will feel or see it. It’s a mistake to look at your body to see if you are healed. The Bible says, “God is a Spirit” (John 4:24). Therefore, He heals you through your spirit. Divine healing always begins in your spirit and then is manifested in your body. Jesus said His Words are spirit: “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). And according to Proverbs 4:20-22, this life gets into your spirit by: - attending to the Word of God. - inclining your ear to the Word of God. - keeping the Word of God before your eyes. - keeping the Word of God in the midst of your heart. It is only when the Word of God gets into your spirit, AND STAYS THERE, that those words become life and health to ALL your flesh. Follow these four steps and you will see God’s blessings become a reality in your life. They are “God’s Recipe for Life and Health”! If you’re dealing with sickness, pain, or any kind of physical struggle today, I want to speak directly to your heart. The message I’m about to share has the power to shift your perspective forever. Most people who are sick want one thing: to get well. But many don’t realize that God also wants them to get well. He wants your healing as much as you want it! Emphatically! Not “maybe.” Not “sometimes.” Not “if it’s His mysterious will.” God has already made His will absolutely clear. How? Through the beatings that Jesus took as our substitute. "…by whose stripes you were healed." - 1 Peter 2:24-25 NKJV The Father let Jesus bear your sickness and disease because they did not originate with Him. They are part of the curse, the result of Satan taking over this world’s system. The devil has never given anything good to anyone. But God provided His Son Jesus to restore what Satan took, including the health of His people. The Bible distinguishes between the works of Satan and the works of God. In John’s gospel Jesus stated this difference plainly: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10 NKJV This good news goes even further. Scripture tells us that Satan was completely defeated and his works were forever destroyed by Jesus. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. Col 2:15 NKJV Now, you may be wondering, “If God already healed me, and if Satan has been defeated, why do I have symptoms of disease and pain in my body?” There is a simple reason: Satan does not follow the rules. He is still on the loose, illegally trying to put disease on people. And he will always get away with it—unless someone enforces his defeat. We see the same pattern in society today. Even though it is illegal to steal or kill people, we have criminals who do just that. They will get away with it—unless someone in authority arrests the criminal and stops his activity. Who has this authority to stop Satan’s illegal activity? You do! If you are a child of God, you have been given spiritual authority over all the works of the devil. Jesus said so in Luke 10:19: “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Since sickness and disease are powers of the enemy, then according to Jesus, we have authority over them. “All the power of the enemy” means…all! This authority over the enemy is what many Christians haven’t gotten into their spirits and minds. For many, the issue isn’t God’s willingness, or the devil’s power, or the sickness itself. Instead, for many the issue is how they identify themselves. Instead of seeing themselves as children of God invested with His authority, they have what I call a grasshopper mentality. They see themselves as small, weak, and powerless. An example of how people’s self-image affects the way they deal with an enemy is in the story of the twelve spies sent to assess the Promised Land. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel.” Num 13:1 NKJV The twelve spies spent forty days searching out the Promised Land. They all saw the same thing, but when they returned, they gave Moses and the people two different reports. Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” Num 13:30-33 NKJV Ten of the spies gave a natural report: despite the abundance of every good thing, these spies focused on the devouring giants in the land. Joshua and Caleb, however, gave a faith report: the Israelites were well able to overcome the giants and to take the land. Even though they saw the enemy, they focused on what God had promised! Here’s the key: The giants were real—but so was God’s promise, and His promise trumped the giants. The difference between the reports was perspective—seeing the circumstance, but declaring God’s promises. Put another way, it’s a matter of who you agree with. Ten spies agreed with fear. Joshua and Caleb agreed with God. These two had the spirit of faith, and that spirit always agrees with God. It is not swayed by things that look large. Why is agreeing with God so important? Because you can never receive by disagreeing with Him. This is why many Christians don’t walk in healing—they disagree with God. Here’s what being “disagreeable” looks like: God says: “You are healed.”Disagreement says: “I guess I’m still sick.” God says: “You have authority.”Disagreement says: “I feel helpless.” God says: “The Greater One is in you.”Disagreement says: “The problem is too big.” The Israelites never entered the Promised Land—not because God didn’t give it to them, but because they refused to agree with God and move forward in their authority. In the same way, many believers never take possession of healing because they are “disagreeable” and therefore never use their authority to resist sickness. Are you facing a diagnosis that looks like a giant? Something that feels too big, too strong, or too permanent? Meditate on 1 John 4:4: “Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.” This verse tells you that God’s power in you is greater than the sickness in your body. Greater than the symptoms you feel. Greater than the doctor’s report. Greater than the giant standing in your way. You may feel small as a grasshopper, but the One inside you is not. Healing is not about your strength but His. You’re simply enforcing a victory that Jesus already won. Today, make a decision: Stop waiting for healing and start standing in the healing that already belongs to you. Don’t see yourself as a grasshopper but as God does—full of authority and power, and filled with the Greater One. Command sickness to leave your body. Tell Satan that you refuse to be sick. Enforce the victory Jesus purchased for you. Healing is not just a promise, it’s your inheritance! One of the greatest temptations any believer will have in life, is the temptation to talk about the problems they’re facing. This includes sickness and disease! Think about how often you hear people talking about their ailments. Now, some of you may have your jaws hanging open at this point, because you have never realized that talking about your sicknesses was actually a temptation! I call it a temptation because anything we say that contradicts what God has said is sin. Sickness contradicts what God says about you, so when you talk about sickness, you’re sinning. How do we know sickness contradicts what God says? The Bible clearly tells us in countless places. One such place is 1 Peter 2:24: …who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. God’s Word says you WERE healed. So, saying you are sick contradicts God. In fact, it is siding with the devil by repeating what he says. Instead of echoing him, declare what God says. Speaking His Word is a key part of faith. And to receive healing and live in health, we must understand how faith works. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Heb 11:1 NKJV The Amplified Classic version says, NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. Notice that your faith is the evidence of things not seen with the natural eye. Faith perceives something as FACT even though it isn’t revealed to the senses. When we say what God says, even if it is not yet evident to our physical senses, the Bible calls this FAITH. Now, many people think that they are lying if they say they are healed when their body says they’re not. That is not lying! Repeating what God has said is speaking the truth. God cannot lie. Real faith declares this: if God says it is so, then it is so! Faith simply agrees with God—and speaks that agreement. Since He says, “…by whose stripes you were healed,” then agree that you are healed! The story of Abraham is an example of how faith works. We know from Genesis that Sarah was barren well into her old age. The natural facts told her, “You are too old to have a child. It’s impossible!” But that is not what God said! He told them that they WOULD have a child. If you think your situation is impossible, consider that a 90-year-old woman believed she could become pregnant! Despite her circumstances, she chose to believe God over the natural facts. (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.” And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. Rom 4:17-21 NKJV There are many good points here that I want to bring out regarding how faith works: 1. The starting point of receiving from God is knowing what He says. God called Abraham the father of many nations long before he had any children: “I have made you a father of many nations.” Likewise, God called us healed before we ever saw that healing in our bodies, “By whose stripes, you were healed.” 2. Faith calls those things which do not exist as though they did. Many people agree that God does this, but they don’t believe that we can or should do this. They may even think you’re crazy if you start saying you’re healed when it doesn’t yet look like it. There is no healing apart from calling things that do not exist as though they did. This is one of the most difficult things to convince Christians to do, and not doing it is why many do not receive healing. Instead of calling things that do not exist, they keep talking about the misery they’re in. Somehow they expect to be healed that way. They won’t be! You cannot receive from God by disagreeing with Him. Abraham agreed with God by calling things that did not exist as though they did. Abram and Sarai initially had difficulty believing God’s Word, which is why it took almost 25 years to come to pass. But one day God changed their names to Abraham and Sarah, which literally means the father and mother of many nations (Genesis 17). From then on, every time they introduced themselves to others, they automatically called those things that do not exist as though they did. 3. Strong faith does not consider the condition of one’s body. We see that Abraham did not consider his or Sarah’s ages or the fact that Sarah was barren while in her youth. Like Sarah and Abraham, if you want to receive healing, you must refuse to consider the current condition of your body. Strong faith does NOT waver regarding the promises of God. In fact, wavering is called unbelief in Romans 4:20. When you have a good promise from God, you must stand your ground and refuse to give in to negative circumstances. We do this because we know that God cannot lie. If He said we are healed, then we ARE HEALED. 4. Your faith is strengthened as you continue to give glory to God. Praise is crucial to receiving and keeping healing. Why? Because praising God is magnifying Him. And as we magnify God, we acknowledge that He is far greater than any problem we face. Praise strengthens faith. It shows the devil that you trust God and are not moved by negative symptoms. No matter the disease or pain, continue to praise God and see how big He is compared to your problems! So, if you want to receive the healing that God says is already yours, do these things: Know what God says. Agree with Him by calling those things that do not exist as though they did! Call for healing, not disease. For victory, not defeat. Don’t consider your body’s present condition. Praise God in all circumstances and watch your words of faith bring your healing into manifestation! I come to you each week with the good news that God is a good God, and His desire is that you prosper and be in health. Jesus paid the price so that all of your sins could be forgiven, and all of your diseases could be healed. And why did He do that for us? BECAUSE OF HIS GREAT LOVE WITH WHICH HE LOVED US! The Lord really loves you, and as a good father would, He wants you to live peaceful and healed. If we don’t have a proper understanding of the nature and character of our God, we will often fail to receive what He has given us. And so I want you to see just how much the Lord cares for you, and that His mercy for healing never fails. Psalm 145:8-9 tells us: The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy. The Lord is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works. A wealth of information about the nature and character of God is revealed in these two verses. They reveal to us that the Lord is gracious and FULL of compassion. Gracious is the same as being kind. There is no one who exhibits more kindness than our Lord and Savior, Jesus. Compassion can be defined as sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. Compassion will motivate one to go out of their way to relieve the physical, mental, and emotional pain of others. Compassion is what motivated God to send Jesus to be our sacrifice for sin and sickness. Psalm 145, verse 8 goes on to say that God is slow to anger and great in mercy. It is possible to grow up in a religious home like I did, and have never heard this good news. I always loved Jesus, but my understanding of His nature was twisted. I somehow had the idea that when things went wrong, I was being punished. Some of you reading this may feel that the disease you’ve been living with is some sort of punishment. I want you to know that our God NEVER uses sickness or disease to punish His children with! He is slow to anger, not quick to anger. Verse 9 says that the Lord is good to ALL, and His tender mercies are over all His works. Since we are some of His works, His tender mercies hover over us. Notice that verse uses the word mercies, which is plural. God has more than one type of mercy for us. Certainly, salvation for sinners is God’s mercy toward us. However, God has many mercies for us. And one of those mercies includes healing for our bodies! Malachi 3:6 tells us: For I am the Lord, I change not; If He was merciful and compassionate in the Old Testament, how much more is He merciful today to the born again believer? I want you to see something powerful from the book of Hebrews 4:15-16: For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. These verses are so rich! Jesus is able to be compassionate toward us because He faced the same things, and much more, that we have. He understands our difficulties. We are admonished to come boldly to the throne of grace for two reasons: 1. To receive mercy. We have received favor that we did not deserve. That is why we call it mercy. 2. To find grace to help in time of need. We have received compassion from One who can identify with us. Hebrews 4:16 from the amplified classic says it this way: Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God's unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it]. There is grace to help for every need. This includes healing! We are to come confidently and boldly, knowing that we will receive our help. This sounds like the spirit of faith! Too many people have had the wrong impression of God thinking that He is withholding good things, or waiting to swat people if they do something wrong. But this verse tells us that He will help us in our time of need. One way we learn about the character of God is through His Son, Jesus. Jesus said in John 14:9, “He that has seen Me has seen the Father.” When studying the miracles of Jesus, we see time and again that He was moved with compassion toward suffering humanity and healed the people. One such place is found in Mark 1:40-42: Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed. If you are in need of healing, Jesus is reaching out to you in compassion today as well. Just like He said “yes” to this leper, He is always willing and saying “yes” to you too. The Wuest translation says, “I am desiring it from all my heart. Be cleansed at once.” I hope you can see from this short devotional that God loves you, He is merciful toward you, and He is desiring from all His heart that you be healed. Today is a good day to receive it! I have good news for you! God not only wants you healed, but He has also given clear instructions on how you can receive healing. One of the most important instructions for receiving has to do with your mouth: you must say the outcome you want! When God created mankind, the Bible says He created speaking spirits. And by creating man to be like Him, He gave man the power of WORDS. Speech is what sets humans apart from animals. Like God, humans can speak words and create their destiny. The power of our words pertains to every part of our lives, including our health and bodies. According to God’s Word, what we speak controls our health. It is imperative to understand that our words are connected to our healing. Jesus taught us this truth. “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” Mark 11:23 NKJV Notice that Jesus did not teach us to talk about the mountain or problem. He taught us to talk to the mountain. According to this verse, what we believe in our heart and say with our mouth is what we will have! Now, a mountain can represent sickness or disease. If we talk about the sickness or disease, instead of to it, that is what we will have. Conversely, if we will say what God says—“By His stripes, I AM healed,” for example—we will live healed. The Old Testament, too, addresses the power of words. Proverbs 18:21 tells us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” This means that because of the power in our words, we ourselves determine whether we will have death or life. Sickness and disease are nothing more than the beginning stages of death. So, if we want to stop the death process in our bodies, we must stop talking about how sick we are—that is, talking about the mountain. Now don’t misunderstand me. I am not saying that we will not eventually die, but rather that we do not have to die from disease. When it’s time to depart and be with the Lord, our spirits can simply leave our bodies. That is the perfect will of God for us! Now let’s look at another passage about the power of our words. For we all often stumble and fall and offend in many things. And if anyone does not offend in speech [never says the wrong things], he is a fully developed character and a perfect man, able to control his whole body and to curb his entire nature. James 3:2 AMPC Notice that we can control our whole body if we don’t say the wrong things! This includes the health of our bodies! Now I want you to get the full picture of how this works by seeing the comparisons James makes. Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. James 3:3-5 NKJV The tongue is a little member of our bodies, and yet it is the most unruly part. So many people think they are powerful because they can cut people up with their words. However, all they are revealing is that they are unruly and immature! Again, notice the comparisons: - A tiny bit can control a very large and strong animal—a horse. - A very small rudder controls the direction of a very large ship. - A very little tongue controls the destiny of your life, including the health of your body. We see that we have the power to control our health by what we say! Our words have substance—and that substance is either faith or doubt and unbelief. We want to be sure the substance is faith in God’s Word, because that’s what will help us receive what we desire: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 KJV In Mark we read the account of a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years! Let’s see how her words were directly connected to her healing. And [the woman] had endured much suffering under [the hands of] many physicians and had spent all that she had, and was no better but instead grew worse. She had heard the reports concerning Jesus, and she came up behind Him in the throng and touched His garment, For she kept saying, If I only touch His garments, I shall be restored to health. And immediately her flow of blood was dried up at the source, and [suddenly] she felt in her body that she was healed of her [distressing] ailment. Mark 5:26-29 AMPC Notice that she KEPT saying the same thing. And what she repeatedly said is exactly what she received! Declaring she would be restored when she touched Jesus’ garment was her faith speaking. In order for you to receive healing, you, too, must keep saying what God says. It’s not enough to say it one time. And don’t vacillate, speaking God’s word one day, but the next day talking about the disease again. When you change what you are saying, the Bible calls that being “double-minded.” The woman with the issue of blood received her healing because she wasn’t double-minded. If she had spoken both faith and doubt, she wouldn’t have been healed. He who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1:6-8 NKJV Speaking God’s Word is not hard. It is simply agreeing with Him! Always remember, nobody receives anything from God by disagreeing with Him. So let’s just agree with Him and speak that out. You may be wondering, “How long do I have to say what God says?” For the rest of your life on earth! You keep your healing the same way you receive it: by speaking and agreeing with God. So, let’s start using our words wisely. God gave us the power of words to bring life and health to our bodies, in Jesus’ Name! Let’s follow His simple instructions and use that power He entrusted us with! Many well-meaning people who actually believe that God heals, will often allocate their healing to the future. Over the years, I’ve heard many people use the phrase, “all in God’s time.” Now, although this may sound like a spiritual statement, it is as far from the truth as any statement could get! Yes, God does have a timing for certain events in life, like when people get married, or when Jesus will return. However, when it comes to what He has already provided, such as healing, God is not the One who sets the time. We are not waiting on God for our healing. God is always waiting on us! I want to show you today from His Word that we are the ones who determine how, where, and when we will receive our healing. All of this we can see in Mark’s account of the woman with the issue of blood. Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?” But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’” And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.” Mark 5:25-34 NKJV This is one of those stories that provides endless material for sermons because it is so rich with instruction and revelation. Today, I want you to see in particular that this woman determined how, where, and when she received her miracle. She did not wait on Jesus. 1. How: she determined what her point of contact would be. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” This woman determined that she would receive her healing by touching the hem of Jesus’ garment. (Luke’s account in the Greek tells us she touched the tassel of His hem.) What made her believe this would work? First, she heard two things about Jesus: that people were healed by Him and that He might be the coming Messiah. Second, as a Jew she would have already learned that Messiah was the High Priest to come, that the High Priest always wore a garment when entering into the Holy of Holies, and that this garment had alternating bells and decorative pomegranates all along the hem. The pomegranate represents the fruit of the spirit, and the bell represents the gifts of the spirit, including healing. Although Jesus did not wear a garment with bells and pomegranates on it, this woman knew somehow that touching the garment of this High Priest would deliver the anointing to her. So she released her faith. In the same way, when we need healing, we must release our faith for it. To release faith, we must be like this woman and determine what our point of contact will be. That could be - when you pray; - when hands are laid upon you; - when you read words of faith, like this blog. 2. Where: the woman determined to go to the place where Jesus was. Notice that she did not choose to stay home and hope for the best. She was determined, even though physical odds were against her. For one thing, she was in a weakened condition. For another, she was bleeding continually; under Jewish law, she was forbidden to mingle in public. She could have made excuses for why she couldn’t get to Jesus. But she decided she would go to the place where she could receive a miracle, no matter how many obstacles she faced. Besides being determined to go, she knew where to go. Knowing where to go for healing is key today, too. Not every church or pastor believes that God will always heal. If you want to receive healing, you will often have to make hard decisions about whether to stay in the church you’re at, or move on to a place where healing power is present. 3. When: this woman determined when she would receive her miracle. Notice that Jesus did not give instructions to the people about when they should come to Him for healing. Those who were healed in the gospels always determined for themselves when they would approach Jesus. People showed up daily from miles around to seek Him out and receive from Him. The woman with the issue of blood determined the timing as well. She decided that “now” was the time, not when “I feel a little better”, or when it was “more convenient.” The day she walked out of her house and headed toward Jesus was the day of her miracle. You, too, are the one who determines when you are healed. Here are a few helpful tips for making this decision: a. Make the quality decision that you will not live another day with sickness. b. Begin to meditate upon healing scriptures day and night until your heart is full of faith. c. Once you are full of faith, you will be ready to receive healing. That will be your “when”! Always remember that when it comes to divine healing, you are NOT waiting on God. He is waiting on you to decide how, where, and when you will receive! Divine healing is always the will of God for mankind. In the same way that God does not want any person to perish eternally, He does not want His precious people to suffer with sickness and disease. Furthermore, divine healing is not hard to receive. Divine healing is actually in your heart and in your mouth when you believe and speak the Word of God. But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach). Rom 10:8 NKJV Too often, people think of healing as a far off blessing that is hard to obtain. But that isn’t so! Healing is as close as your heart and mouth. In fact, healing gets into your heart and mouth by the Word of God. Did you know that Jesus and the Word of God are one and the same? In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 NKJV And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 NKJV Because Jesus is the Word of God, we must meditate upon His Word. This is the key to receiving healing: spending time reading and speaking the scriptures on healing; if we don’t do that, we will fail to receive healing. There is no divine healing apart from the Word of God. When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.” Matt 8:16-17 NKJV Notice that Jesus cast out spirits and healed with a WORD. I like to say it this way: The Word is enough! You are only one scripture away from receiving healing. When you are reaching out in faith for healing, think about Psalm 107 verse 20: He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. The reason the Word will heal is because the Word is Jesus. And since Jesus is alive, the Word of God is alive! It is not just black ink on white paper. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Heb 4:12 NKJV Weymouth’s translation says: “God’s message is full of life and power.” This is why we should highly value the Word of God, for it answers our every need. Now that I’ve established the truth that God uses His Word to heal, we must take this a step further. How do we apply the Word of God to our need? There are two simple steps to follow: 1. The Word must get into your heart in abundance. This will happen as you obey Proverbs 4:20-22: My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. It is only as we get God’s Word into our heart, and keep it there, that it can produce healing in our bodies. We do this through giving attention to God’s Word; we must read and meditate upon it daily. The Lord’s prayer says, “Give us this day our DAILY bread.” The manna that came from Heaven in the Old Testament was daily, and we know from the gospel of John that manna was a type of Jesus—the Word. So we must take the bread of life daily. 2. The Word must come out of your mouth in abundance. It is never enough only to have the Word of God in your heart in abundance. There is a second part that is vital to receive healing. We must continually speak the Word of God. Even meditating includes speaking it; to meditate is to ponder, think about, mutter daily. So speaking the Word is a form of meditation. Why is it necessary to speak the Word? Because after faith comes into your heart by hearing with your spirit, that faith is released for healing by saying what God says. Releasing it is the second step. Jesus gave us these powerful words in Mark 11:23 (NKJV): “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” We see that we will only have what we believe in our hearts and say with our mouths. So, if you need healing, get busy filling your heart with healing scriptures. Then continually speak those scriptures about your health, regardless of what you feel or see. Before long, your healing will manifest. You will see that healing was as close as your heart and mouth all along. In the previous few blogs, I said that if you’ve ever doubted the will of God concerning healing, look no further than the four gospels. In them you’ll see that Jesus always said “yes” to healing! He never turned anyone away who came to Him for healing. And if you turn to Him for your healing, He will say “yes” to you! The gospels also instruct us on how to receive healing from God. So I have been teaching about the healings of Jesus because we can glean helpful nuggets. Today, let’s study the account of the nobleman’s son who was healed. So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son was lying ill in Capernaum. Having heard that Jesus had come back from Judea into Galilee, he went away to meet Him and began to beg Him to come down and cure his son, for he was lying at the point of death. Then Jesus said to him, Unless you see signs and miracles happen, you [people] never will believe (trust, have faith) at all. The king’s officer pleaded with Him, Sir, do come down at once before my little child is dead! Jesus answered him, Go in peace; your son will live! And the man put his trust in what Jesus said and started home. But even as he was on the road going down, his servants met him and reported, saying, Your son lives! So he asked them at what time he had begun to get better. They said, Yesterday during the seventh hour (about one o’clock in the afternoon) the fever left him. Then the father knew that it was at that very hour when Jesus had said to him, Your son will live. And he and his entire household believed (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Jesus). John 4:46-53 AMPC If you read through stories like these quickly, you might miss some key aspects. So, I want to break it down and look at five valuable truths. 1. Faith is required to receive anything from God. James addressed this when he said, But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord. James 1:6-8 NKJV We see that faith is necessary to receive. We could say that faith is the currency of Heaven. We don’t pay for healing with money. We can only obtain healing by the currency of faith. The nobleman had such faith, although not initially. When he first came to Jesus, he came begging for help. His humility was commendable. But begging didn’t help him receive healing for his son. After he heard what Jesus said, however, the nobleman put his trust in Him and went on his way home. The nobleman had to travel a great distance back, but he made the journey in faith, even though he didn’t see his son yet. When did he go from begging to faith? After hearing Jesus’ words. And once he had faith, his son’s healing could be accomplished! Many people are desperate, and they make the mistake of pleading and begging God for things. But this is a futile approach that will not get results. God will not answer us based on need, or even on sincerity. We can be sincere in our begging, but God only responds to faith! How do we obtain faith for healing? 2. Faith comes only one way: by hearing! So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom 10:17 NKJV Just as we don’t receive our answers by begging or crying, faith doesn’t come by begging or crying. It comes by hearing. Jesus said to use our ears: “He who has ears to hear, let him hear” (Mark 4:9). It is critical that we listen to the Word on a daily basis. We’re always listening to something, and it’s going to be either faith building or not. Let’s keep our ears listening to the Word of God because it always builds faith! Sometimes people rely just on seeing. Jesus knew that this nobleman had come to Him because He had turned the water into wine. That’s why Jesus said, “Unless you see signs and wonder, you will never have faith at all.” But Jesus knew that seeing a miracle was not enough for the nobleman to receive healing for his son. He knew the nobleman needed faith. Faith comes by hearing. Therefore, Jesus gave him words to believe: “Go in peace. Your son will live.” And he believed Him. 3. Healing power is not limited to proximity. As a child raised in a denominational church that did not teach healing, I would daydream about how nice it would be to have Jesus physically present to heal people like He did when He was on the earth. Then I found out Jesus was in fact still healing people today, and after that everything changed for me. My dream had come true. Thank God, Jesus doesn’t have to be physically present for us to receive our healing. If He does not have to be present, what is required? Speaking the Word of God! That’s because Jesus and His Word are ONE. When we speak His Word, we’re bringing Him on the scene, even though He isn’t physically present. In the same way, once Jesus spoke the Word concerning the nobleman’s son, healing began, even though He was not present with the boy. There is no distance in the realm of the spirit. The Roman centurion in Matthew 8 understood this. He told Jesus that He didn’t need to come to his home to heal his servant. He simply said, “Speak the Word only, and my servant shall be healed.” And Jesus marveled at his faith. Let’s have the same kind of faith in the Word that the centurion did! 4. Not all healing is instant. Some people might be surprised to discover that most healings are not instantaneous. The nobleman asked his servants what time his son began to get better. It seems he anticipated that it might not be instantaneous. Yet he had faith in what Jesus said, and that was all that mattered! He did not ask Jesus to come with him; he trusted in His words. If you pray for healing for yourself or someone else, or you ask someone to lay hands on you for healing, and you don’t notice a change right away, DO NOT CAST AWAY YOUR CONFIDENCE! The moment you believe and receive, healing power begins to work. We must hold fast to what we believe, regardless of how we feel or what we see. If we refuse to stop believing, we will receive the manifestation, no matter how long it takes. 5. One person receiving healing can lead many to Jesus. The final point we learn from the nobleman’s story is that the receiver isn’t the only person impacted by healing. Verse 53 tells us that the nobleman and his entire household believed in Jesus as a result of his son’s healing. This boy was at the point of death, so his recovery was an obvious miracle to those around him. His healing led others to believe! Every time you receive divine healing, you are glorifying God. And when you glorify God, others do, too. This is an important aspect of healing: our sound bodies bring glory to God, as Paul said in Corinthians: For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Cor 6:20 NKJV So be encouraged today. Faith is Heaven’s currency, it comes by hearing the Word, and it is all you need to receive healing! If the manifestation takes some time, don’t lose confidence in the Word! And expect that others will see what happened, believe in Jesus, and glorify Him!
