I come to you each week with the good news that God is a good God, and His desire is that you prosper and be in health. Jesus paid the price so that all of your sins could be forgiven, and all of your diseases could be healed. And why did He do that for us? BECAUSE OF HIS GREAT LOVE WITH WHICH HE LOVED US! The Lord really loves you, and as a good father would, He wants you to live peaceful and healed. If we don’t have a proper understanding of the nature and character of our God, we will often fail to receive what He has given us. And so I want you to see just how much the Lord cares for you, and that His mercy for healing never fails. Psalm 145:8-9 tells us: The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy. The Lord is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works. A wealth of information about the nature and character of God is revealed in these two verses. They reveal to us that the Lord is gracious and FULL of compassion. Gracious is the same as being kind. There is no one who exhibits more kindness than our Lord and Savior, Jesus. Compassion can be defined as sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. Compassion will motivate one to go out of their way to relieve the physical, mental, and emotional pain of others. Compassion is what motivated God to send Jesus to be our sacrifice for sin and sickness. Psalm 145, verse 8 goes on to say that God is slow to anger and great in mercy. It is possible to grow up in a religious home like I did, and have never heard this good news. I always loved Jesus, but my understanding of His nature was twisted. I somehow had the idea that when things went wrong, I was being punished. Some of you reading this may feel that the disease you’ve been living with is some sort of punishment. I want you to know that our God NEVER uses sickness or disease to punish His children with! He is slow to anger, not quick to anger. Verse 9 says that the Lord is good to ALL, and His tender mercies are over all His works. Since we are some of His works, His tender mercies hover over us. Notice that verse uses the word mercies, which is plural. God has more than one type of mercy for us. Certainly, salvation for sinners is God’s mercy toward us. However, God has many mercies for us. And one of those mercies includes healing for our bodies! Malachi 3:6 tells us: For I am the Lord, I change not; If He was merciful and compassionate in the Old Testament, how much more is He merciful today to the born again believer? I want you to see something powerful from the book of Hebrews 4:15-16: For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. These verses are so rich! Jesus is able to be compassionate toward us because He faced the same things, and much more, that we have. He understands our difficulties. We are admonished to come boldly to the throne of grace for two reasons: 1. To receive mercy. We have received favor that we did not deserve. That is why we call it mercy. 2. To find grace to help in time of need. We have received compassion from One who can identify with us. Hebrews 4:16 from the amplified classic says it this way: Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God's unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it]. There is grace to help for every need. This includes healing! We are to come confidently and boldly, knowing that we will receive our help. This sounds like the spirit of faith! Too many people have had the wrong impression of God thinking that He is withholding good things, or waiting to swat people if they do something wrong. But this verse tells us that He will help us in our time of need. One way we learn about the character of God is through His Son, Jesus. Jesus said in John 14:9, “He that has seen Me has seen the Father.” When studying the miracles of Jesus, we see time and again that He was moved with compassion toward suffering humanity and healed the people. One such place is found in Mark 1:40-42: Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed. If you are in need of healing, Jesus is reaching out to you in compassion today as well. Just like He said “yes” to this leper, He is always willing and saying “yes” to you too. The Wuest translation says, “I am desiring it from all my heart. Be cleansed at once.” I hope you can see from this short devotional that God loves you, He is merciful toward you, and He is desiring from all His heart that you be healed. Today is a good day to receive it! I have good news for you! God not only wants you healed, but He has also given clear instructions on how you can receive healing. One of the most important instructions for receiving has to do with your mouth: you must say the outcome you want! When God created mankind, the Bible says He created speaking spirits. And by creating man to be like Him, He gave man the power of WORDS. Speech is what sets humans apart from animals. Like God, humans can speak words and create their destiny. The power of our words pertains to every part of our lives, including our health and bodies. According to God’s Word, what we speak controls our health. It is imperative to understand that our words are connected to our healing. Jesus taught us this truth. “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” Mark 11:23 NKJV Notice that Jesus did not teach us to talk about the mountain or problem. He taught us to talk to the mountain. According to this verse, what we believe in our heart and say with our mouth is what we will have! Now, a mountain can represent sickness or disease. If we talk about the sickness or disease, instead of to it, that is what we will have. Conversely, if we will say what God says—“By His stripes, I AM healed,” for example—we will live healed. The Old Testament, too, addresses the power of words. Proverbs 18:21 tells us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” This means that because of the power in our words, we ourselves determine whether we will have death or life. Sickness and disease are nothing more than the beginning stages of death. So, if we want to stop the death process in our bodies, we must stop talking about how sick we are—that is, talking about the mountain. Now don’t misunderstand me. I am not saying that we will not eventually die, but rather that we do not have to die from disease. When it’s time to depart and be with the Lord, our spirits can simply leave our bodies. That is the perfect will of God for us! Now let’s look at another passage about the power of our words. For we all often stumble and fall and offend in many things. And if anyone does not offend in speech [never says the wrong things], he is a fully developed character and a perfect man, able to control his whole body and to curb his entire nature. James 3:2 AMPC Notice that we can control our whole body if we don’t say the wrong things! This includes the health of our bodies! Now I want you to get the full picture of how this works by seeing the comparisons James makes. Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. James 3:3-5 NKJV The tongue is a little member of our bodies, and yet it is the most unruly part. So many people think they are powerful because they can cut people up with their words. However, all they are revealing is that they are unruly and immature! Again, notice the comparisons: - A tiny bit can control a very large and strong animal—a horse. - A very small rudder controls the direction of a very large ship. - A very little tongue controls the destiny of your life, including the health of your body. We see that we have the power to control our health by what we say! Our words have substance—and that substance is either faith or doubt and unbelief. We want to be sure the substance is faith in God’s Word, because that’s what will help us receive what we desire: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 KJV In Mark we read the account of a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years! Let’s see how her words were directly connected to her healing. And [the woman] had endured much suffering under [the hands of] many physicians and had spent all that she had, and was no better but instead grew worse. She had heard the reports concerning Jesus, and she came up behind Him in the throng and touched His garment, For she kept saying, If I only touch His garments, I shall be restored to health. And immediately her flow of blood was dried up at the source, and [suddenly] she felt in her body that she was healed of her [distressing] ailment. Mark 5:26-29 AMPC Notice that she KEPT saying the same thing. And what she repeatedly said is exactly what she received! Declaring she would be restored when she touched Jesus’ garment was her faith speaking. In order for you to receive healing, you, too, must keep saying what God says. It’s not enough to say it one time. And don’t vacillate, speaking God’s word one day, but the next day talking about the disease again. When you change what you are saying, the Bible calls that being “double-minded.” The woman with the issue of blood received her healing because she wasn’t double-minded. If she had spoken both faith and doubt, she wouldn’t have been healed. He who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1:6-8 NKJV Speaking God’s Word is not hard. It is simply agreeing with Him! Always remember, nobody receives anything from God by disagreeing with Him. So let’s just agree with Him and speak that out. You may be wondering, “How long do I have to say what God says?” For the rest of your life on earth! You keep your healing the same way you receive it: by speaking and agreeing with God. So, let’s start using our words wisely. God gave us the power of words to bring life and health to our bodies, in Jesus’ Name! Let’s follow His simple instructions and use that power He entrusted us with! Many well-meaning people who actually believe that God heals, will often allocate their healing to the future. Over the years, I’ve heard many people use the phrase, “all in God’s time.” Now, although this may sound like a spiritual statement, it is as far from the truth as any statement could get! Yes, God does have a timing for certain events in life, like when people get married, or when Jesus will return. However, when it comes to what He has already provided, such as healing, God is not the One who sets the time. We are not waiting on God for our healing. God is always waiting on us! I want to show you today from His Word that we are the ones who determine how, where, and when we will receive our healing. All of this we can see in Mark’s account of the woman with the issue of blood. Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?” But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’” And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.” Mark 5:25-34 NKJV This is one of those stories that provides endless material for sermons because it is so rich with instruction and revelation. Today, I want you to see in particular that this woman determined how, where, and when she received her miracle. She did not wait on Jesus. 1. How: she determined what her point of contact would be. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” This woman determined that she would receive her healing by touching the hem of Jesus’ garment. (Luke’s account in the Greek tells us she touched the tassel of His hem.) What made her believe this would work? First, she heard two things about Jesus: that people were healed by Him and that He might be the coming Messiah. Second, as a Jew she would have already learned that Messiah was the High Priest to come, that the High Priest always wore a garment when entering into the Holy of Holies, and that this garment had alternating bells and decorative pomegranates all along the hem. The pomegranate represents the fruit of the spirit, and the bell represents the gifts of the spirit, including healing. Although Jesus did not wear a garment with bells and pomegranates on it, this woman knew somehow that touching the garment of this High Priest would deliver the anointing to her. So she released her faith. In the same way, when we need healing, we must release our faith for it. To release faith, we must be like this woman and determine what our point of contact will be. That could be - when you pray; - when hands are laid upon you; - when you read words of faith, like this blog. 2. Where: the woman determined to go to the place where Jesus was. Notice that she did not choose to stay home and hope for the best. She was determined, even though physical odds were against her. For one thing, she was in a weakened condition. For another, she was bleeding continually; under Jewish law, she was forbidden to mingle in public. She could have made excuses for why she couldn’t get to Jesus. But she decided she would go to the place where she could receive a miracle, no matter how many obstacles she faced. Besides being determined to go, she knew where to go. Knowing where to go for healing is key today, too. Not every church or pastor believes that God will always heal. If you want to receive healing, you will often have to make hard decisions about whether to stay in the church you’re at, or move on to a place where healing power is present. 3. When: this woman determined when she would receive her miracle. Notice that Jesus did not give instructions to the people about when they should come to Him for healing. Those who were healed in the gospels always determined for themselves when they would approach Jesus. People showed up daily from miles around to seek Him out and receive from Him. The woman with the issue of blood determined the timing as well. She decided that “now” was the time, not when “I feel a little better”, or when it was “more convenient.” The day she walked out of her house and headed toward Jesus was the day of her miracle. You, too, are the one who determines when you are healed. Here are a few helpful tips for making this decision: a. Make the quality decision that you will not live another day with sickness. b. Begin to meditate upon healing scriptures day and night until your heart is full of faith. c. Once you are full of faith, you will be ready to receive healing. That will be your “when”! Always remember that when it comes to divine healing, you are NOT waiting on God. He is waiting on you to decide how, where, and when you will receive! Divine healing is always the will of God for mankind. In the same way that God does not want any person to perish eternally, He does not want His precious people to suffer with sickness and disease. Furthermore, divine healing is not hard to receive. Divine healing is actually in your heart and in your mouth when you believe and speak the Word of God. But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach). Rom 10:8 NKJV Too often, people think of healing as a far off blessing that is hard to obtain. But that isn’t so! Healing is as close as your heart and mouth. In fact, healing gets into your heart and mouth by the Word of God. Did you know that Jesus and the Word of God are one and the same? In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 NKJV And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 NKJV Because Jesus is the Word of God, we must meditate upon His Word. This is the key to receiving healing: spending time reading and speaking the scriptures on healing; if we don’t do that, we will fail to receive healing. There is no divine healing apart from the Word of God. When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.” Matt 8:16-17 NKJV Notice that Jesus cast out spirits and healed with a WORD. I like to say it this way: The Word is enough! You are only one scripture away from receiving healing. When you are reaching out in faith for healing, think about Psalm 107 verse 20: He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. The reason the Word will heal is because the Word is Jesus. And since Jesus is alive, the Word of God is alive! It is not just black ink on white paper. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Heb 4:12 NKJV Weymouth’s translation says: “God’s message is full of life and power.” This is why we should highly value the Word of God, for it answers our every need. Now that I’ve established the truth that God uses His Word to heal, we must take this a step further. How do we apply the Word of God to our need? There are two simple steps to follow: 1. The Word must get into your heart in abundance. This will happen as you obey Proverbs 4:20-22: My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. It is only as we get God’s Word into our heart, and keep it there, that it can produce healing in our bodies. We do this through giving attention to God’s Word; we must read and meditate upon it daily. The Lord’s prayer says, “Give us this day our DAILY bread.” The manna that came from Heaven in the Old Testament was daily, and we know from the gospel of John that manna was a type of Jesus—the Word. So we must take the bread of life daily. 2. The Word must come out of your mouth in abundance. It is never enough only to have the Word of God in your heart in abundance. There is a second part that is vital to receive healing. We must continually speak the Word of God. Even meditating includes speaking it; to meditate is to ponder, think about, mutter daily. So speaking the Word is a form of meditation. Why is it necessary to speak the Word? Because after faith comes into your heart by hearing with your spirit, that faith is released for healing by saying what God says. Releasing it is the second step. Jesus gave us these powerful words in Mark 11:23 (NKJV): “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” We see that we will only have what we believe in our hearts and say with our mouths. So, if you need healing, get busy filling your heart with healing scriptures. Then continually speak those scriptures about your health, regardless of what you feel or see. Before long, your healing will manifest. You will see that healing was as close as your heart and mouth all along. In the previous few blogs, I said that if you’ve ever doubted the will of God concerning healing, look no further than the four gospels. In them you’ll see that Jesus always said “yes” to healing! He never turned anyone away who came to Him for healing. And if you turn to Him for your healing, He will say “yes” to you! The gospels also instruct us on how to receive healing from God. So I have been teaching about the healings of Jesus because we can glean helpful nuggets. Today, let’s study the account of the nobleman’s son who was healed. So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son was lying ill in Capernaum. Having heard that Jesus had come back from Judea into Galilee, he went away to meet Him and began to beg Him to come down and cure his son, for he was lying at the point of death. Then Jesus said to him, Unless you see signs and miracles happen, you [people] never will believe (trust, have faith) at all. The king’s officer pleaded with Him, Sir, do come down at once before my little child is dead! Jesus answered him, Go in peace; your son will live! And the man put his trust in what Jesus said and started home. But even as he was on the road going down, his servants met him and reported, saying, Your son lives! So he asked them at what time he had begun to get better. They said, Yesterday during the seventh hour (about one o’clock in the afternoon) the fever left him. Then the father knew that it was at that very hour when Jesus had said to him, Your son will live. And he and his entire household believed (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Jesus). John 4:46-53 AMPC If you read through stories like these quickly, you might miss some key aspects. So, I want to break it down and look at five valuable truths. 1. Faith is required to receive anything from God. James addressed this when he said, But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord. James 1:6-8 NKJV We see that faith is necessary to receive. We could say that faith is the currency of Heaven. We don’t pay for healing with money. We can only obtain healing by the currency of faith. The nobleman had such faith, although not initially. When he first came to Jesus, he came begging for help. His humility was commendable. But begging didn’t help him receive healing for his son. After he heard what Jesus said, however, the nobleman put his trust in Him and went on his way home. The nobleman had to travel a great distance back, but he made the journey in faith, even though he didn’t see his son yet. When did he go from begging to faith? After hearing Jesus’ words. And once he had faith, his son’s healing could be accomplished! Many people are desperate, and they make the mistake of pleading and begging God for things. But this is a futile approach that will not get results. God will not answer us based on need, or even on sincerity. We can be sincere in our begging, but God only responds to faith! How do we obtain faith for healing? 2. Faith comes only one way: by hearing! So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom 10:17 NKJV Just as we don’t receive our answers by begging or crying, faith doesn’t come by begging or crying. It comes by hearing. Jesus said to use our ears: “He who has ears to hear, let him hear” (Mark 4:9). It is critical that we listen to the Word on a daily basis. We’re always listening to something, and it’s going to be either faith building or not. Let’s keep our ears listening to the Word of God because it always builds faith! Sometimes people rely just on seeing. Jesus knew that this nobleman had come to Him because He had turned the water into wine. That’s why Jesus said, “Unless you see signs and wonder, you will never have faith at all.” But Jesus knew that seeing a miracle was not enough for the nobleman to receive healing for his son. He knew the nobleman needed faith. Faith comes by hearing. Therefore, Jesus gave him words to believe: “Go in peace. Your son will live.” And he believed Him. 3. Healing power is not limited to proximity. As a child raised in a denominational church that did not teach healing, I would daydream about how nice it would be to have Jesus physically present to heal people like He did when He was on the earth. Then I found out Jesus was in fact still healing people today, and after that everything changed for me. My dream had come true. Thank God, Jesus doesn’t have to be physically present for us to receive our healing. If He does not have to be present, what is required? Speaking the Word of God! That’s because Jesus and His Word are ONE. When we speak His Word, we’re bringing Him on the scene, even though He isn’t physically present. In the same way, once Jesus spoke the Word concerning the nobleman’s son, healing began, even though He was not present with the boy. There is no distance in the realm of the spirit. The Roman centurion in Matthew 8 understood this. He told Jesus that He didn’t need to come to his home to heal his servant. He simply said, “Speak the Word only, and my servant shall be healed.” And Jesus marveled at his faith. Let’s have the same kind of faith in the Word that the centurion did! 4. Not all healing is instant. Some people might be surprised to discover that most healings are not instantaneous. The nobleman asked his servants what time his son began to get better. It seems he anticipated that it might not be instantaneous. Yet he had faith in what Jesus said, and that was all that mattered! He did not ask Jesus to come with him; he trusted in His words. If you pray for healing for yourself or someone else, or you ask someone to lay hands on you for healing, and you don’t notice a change right away, DO NOT CAST AWAY YOUR CONFIDENCE! The moment you believe and receive, healing power begins to work. We must hold fast to what we believe, regardless of how we feel or what we see. If we refuse to stop believing, we will receive the manifestation, no matter how long it takes. 5. One person receiving healing can lead many to Jesus. The final point we learn from the nobleman’s story is that the receiver isn’t the only person impacted by healing. Verse 53 tells us that the nobleman and his entire household believed in Jesus as a result of his son’s healing. This boy was at the point of death, so his recovery was an obvious miracle to those around him. His healing led others to believe! Every time you receive divine healing, you are glorifying God. And when you glorify God, others do, too. This is an important aspect of healing: our sound bodies bring glory to God, as Paul said in Corinthians: For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Cor 6:20 NKJV So be encouraged today. Faith is Heaven’s currency, it comes by hearing the Word, and it is all you need to receive healing! If the manifestation takes some time, don’t lose confidence in the Word! And expect that others will see what happened, believe in Jesus, and glorify Him! If anyone ever doubted the will of God concerning healing, they would have to look no further than the four gospels to see that Jesus always said “yes” to healing! This is also true today, for He is “the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Jesus never turns anyone away who comes to Him for healing! Not only does He always say “yes” but He also gave us an instruction manual—the four gospels—on how to receive from God. That’s why I’ve begun a series on the healings of Jesus recorded in the gospels. From them we glean helpful nuggets about divine healing and how to receive it. I also want to give credit to my pastor, Nancy Dufresne, who has given me a lot of inspiration for these teachings. Today let’s look at the gospel of Mark, chapter 6. When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret and anchored there. And when they came out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him, ran through that whole surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was. Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well. Mark 6:53-56 NKJV You might be wondering how much we can learn from a short passage like this. Actually, much! No matter the length, scriptures always contain plenty of nuggets for us to glean from. The first thing we should notice is the people’s response to Jesus. They RAN to bring the sick to Him. Their running reflected their expectancy! Expectant people run. They don’t hesitate, question, or delay. The people in Gennesaret ran to Jesus because they expected something to happen when they brought the sick to Him. How does expectation apply to us today? Whenever you go to a church service, always go expecting to receive something from God. Whenever someone prays for you, expect to receive something from God. Whenever you study God’s Word, expect to receive revelation. Whenever you ask for something in prayer, expect to receive from God. Those who expect something, receive something! Those who expect nothing, receive nothing! Now, as an important reminder: Healing is not a reward! It is a property that belongs to us in Christ! However, expectation is still necessary to receive our healing. Another key element to receive healing is desire. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mark 11:24 KJV Desire is defined as “to covet, crave, long for, hunger, and yearn.” Desire is not a passive attitude. When you really desire something, being half-hearted won’t get the job done. Why? Because we have an enemy who is arrayed against us and is continually trying to hinder us from receiving from God. Since the enemy is not half-hearted about his opposition to you, you can’t be passive toward him. If you are sick, you cannot afford to be passive in your approach to divine healing. Some people have asked, “Why has God made it so difficult to receive healing?” The answer is this: God has not made it difficult. In fact, He has made it easy! It simply requires a whole-hearted desire that refuses to be swayed off the Word by the strategies of the devil. Desire often means that we must ignore inconvenience. We see this in the multitude in Gennesaret. Despite the inconvenience in their circumstances, they ran. They ran carrying people on beds! And they ran for considerable distances! Their running was not convenient. Yet their desire and expectancy moved them to ignore the inconvenience and to take action! And what was the result of their diligence? “As many as touched Him were made well.” Desire and expectancy bring results! It was quite a different story with those from Jesus’ hometown of Nazareth. Did they show expectancy and desire for results? Unfortunately, no. And since they didn’t expect or desire anything from Jesus, they didn’t receive as the people in Gennesaret did. Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching. Mark 6:5-6 NKJV We see that the preacher is not solely responsible for a lack of power in a service. If people refuse to believe, they won’t receive, and they will hinder others from receiving. In Nazareth Jesus couldn’t do any mighty work, not that He wouldn’t. God can’t help people if they won’t let Him, even though He wants to! The response of a crowd makes a difference. The great multitude at Gennesaret brought their expectancy and desire. That demonstrated their faith, and it is faith that brings the power of God into manifestation. The people of Jesus’ own hometown didn’t bring their faith, so His power couldn’t work mightily there. When it comes to receiving healing, we must be expectant. I believe your expectancy has been rising as you’ve been reading this blog. God wants you to receive your healing today. So be expectant as you read the Word, and release your faith! I have good news for you today: God wants you to have a healed body and a sound mind! He wanted it so much that He let Jesus take stripes upon His back and shed His precious blood. Christ paid the ultimate sacrifice to free you from the bondage of sin and disease, once and for all! If you examine the gospels, you see that Jesus never told anyone, “It’s not My will to heal you.” He willingly and gladly healed all who came to Him with a sincere heart. Last week, we began looking at these accounts of Jesus healing. Studying how others received their healing will help us to receive ours. Let’s discover more helpful nuggets in another account: the man Jesus healed at the pool of Bethesda. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. John 5:2-3 NKJV Notice that the pool was located next to the sheep market. That meant: - There was constant activity and noise. - The smell made it an unpleasant site for the afflicted to dwell. Despite that, people who were desperate went to this pool and stayed for long periods of time. Why? To wait for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. John 5:4 NKJV It was well known that the first one to get into the water when the angel stirred it would be healed. This was great for the ONE who got in first, but not great for all the others left in their desperate situations. Can you imagine the racing, pushing, and shoving to be the first one? Those who were paralyzed would scarcely stand a chance. This angel was not the healer; he delivered God’s healing power in a measure—enough to heal one person. This was as the Spirit willed, and so a type of the gifts of healings, which are never initiated by a human. God is always trying to stimulate our faith. Why? Hebrews 11:6 tells us, “without faith it is impossible to please God.” By stimulating our faith through the gifts of the Holy Spirit, He stirs hunger in us to reach out in faith and receive healing. The pool of Bethesda was a type of this. The healings there showed the mercy of God; He was pointing people to Him, not to the water or the angel. But those who gathered at the pool made the mistake of getting their eyes on the water, instead of on the One Who stirred the water. The same thing can happen today. We can fail to receive our healing if we get our eyes on the wrong things instead of on Jesus. For example, if you see only the doctors or medicine as your answer, you have taken your eyes off of Jesus. And if you see only your sickness or symptoms continually, you are not looking to Jesus as your Healer. But Hebrews tells us we should be looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Heb 12:2 NKJV How do we look unto Jesus? It’s simple! By keeping our attention on His Word! Feed and meditate on the Word of God day and night. When you do this, you are “looking unto Jesus” because He is the Word. What else can we learn from what happened at the pool of Bethesda? These porches contained many people in hopeless situations. The sights and smells were unpleasant. Yet Jesus willingly walked into this setting. Then He approached a man who had been suffering for 38 years. Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” John 5:5-6 NKJV Notice that Jesus first assessed the situation and located the man’s will in the matter. There is no healing apart from your consent. Man’s will is a powerful thing. It can cause a person to seek until he obtains. Let’s look at the exchange between the man and Jesus more closely. “Do you want to become well? [Are you really in earnest about getting well?]” John 5:6 AMPC The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” John 5:7 NKJV Like the others at the pool, this man was looking at the wrong things. He was focused on the water and on finding someone to help him in. Looking at the wrong things will always lead us to make excuses for why we can’t do something or can’t receive something from God. I want to point something else out: This man waited many years to receive healing. But today we no longer need to wait. The Healer has come! He has already taken your sicknesses. You can receive today. To receive, simply believe and then act, just as this man did. Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. John 5:8-9 NKJV The man acted by responding to Jesus’ command to rise. By acting on the Word of Jesus, he demonstrated faith, and he was made well. Receiving healing is not always convenient, but it is never hard. 1. Be earnest about getting well. 2. Be willing to be in the right place. 3. Stop making excuses about why it can’t work for you. 4. Act upon the Word and believe you receive healing. 5. Rejoice and glorify God. If you are earnest about getting well, nothing will be able to stop you from receiving your healing! As many of you know, I bring a weekly message of faith and healing. Often, I repeat truths throughout my blogs and videos. This is because faith doesn’t come by one hearing but by continual hearing of God’s Word. Repetition helps faith! So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom 10:17 NKJV Anointed preaching and teaching of the Word are what set the stage for the power of God to manifest. Jesus promised this in Mark 16:20: He said that when the Word is taught, He will confirm it with signs following. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus first taught the Word of God, and then people received their healing. So, I want to teach from some of the healings in Jesus’ ministry. These true accounts offer us tremendous insight into how we can receive divine healing for ourselves. The examples instruct us! Today let’s look at Mark’s great account of Jesus healing a paralytic. And again He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house. Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. Mark 2:1-2 NKJV People filled the house to overflowing because they all wanted to hear what Jesus was preaching: the Word. Luke’s account then gives us additional information. Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them. Luke 5:17 NKJV Here we see that the crowd included religious leaders and educated teachers of the law, and that they traveled from every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. Among this large group were some who only wanted to catch Jesus in what they thought was error in His teaching. But notice that despite the bad motives of some in the group, the power of the Lord was still present to heal. God desired that all who were diseased would receive healing—no matter who was listening. Also, the reason the power of God was present to heal is because Jesus was evidently teaching on healing. One thing I’ve learned over the years is that preachers will always get what they preach! Jesus’ teaching of the Word set the stage for what came next: Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying. Mark 2:3-4 NKJV Now, notice the important details here: - The man and his friends did not linger passively on the property, merely hoping to eventually get a glimpse of Jesus. - When the man, who was most likely a quadriplegic, and his friends could not get near Jesus, they did not give up, turn around, and go home. - The man’s friends decided to carry him up to the roof of the house! How many paralytics would let their friends do that? How many friends would persist with such determination? Nowadays we have trouble getting people with far less serious conditions to come to a comfortable church to hear and be healed. By contrast, the paralytic and his friends meant business. - Once up on the roof, the friends broke open a hole large enough to lower their friend down through. They were willing to deal with the consequences of damaging someone else’s property. We can learn so much from this account. For one thing, everyone needs FAITH friends—people who will stand and believe with us, no matter what the sacrifice. I heard the story of a few preachers and their wives who traveled 300 miles to pray with another preacher and his wife, who was dying in the last stages of cancer. These friends prayed for two days and nights, sleeping only four hours. On the third day, the woman was raised up completely healed! Few people are willing to sacrifice to that extent, to push past every hindrance of Satan. Instead, many people stop believing and pursuing healing when symptoms linger or circumstances get tough. Some of the most amazing testimonies I’ve heard were from people who were very diligent about receiving their answer. Another point we learn is that faith can be seen! Faith must have corresponding actions for it to be effective. This man’s corresponding action was to let his friends carry him up to a rooftop and then lower him in front of Jesus. He could have refused out of fear or embarrassment, but instead he demonstrated his faith with action. What else do we learn from this account? Before Jesus healed the paralytic, He addressed forgiveness of sins. Physical and spiritual sickness are connected. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” Mark 2:5 NKJV This tells us that the paralytic must have had sin in his life that would have kept him from receiving his healing. For many who are seeking healing, the first steps may be to ask for forgiveness of sin and to turn away from it. If a person in sin receives healing, yet doesn’t change his sinful actions, he will end up losing his healing. We also see in this story that Jesus is so good that He offers us whatever is necessary to enjoy a blessed life. And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason about these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins” — He said to the paralytic, “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!” Mark 2:6-12 NKJV Religious demons will never be happy about what God has to offer you. But don’t let that stop your faith from receiving! You have God and His Word to stand on! I love Jesus’ response to the religious question. He said, “Which is easier?” It is just as easy to receive healing as to receive forgiveness. They were both paid for at the same time. Long before Jesus was born, Isaiah prophesied about this package deal He freely offers us: But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. Isa 53:5 NKJV This paralytic was no longer paralyzed! And his sins were forgiven! Finally, we see from this account that all who saw what happened were amazed and glorified God! When we receive our healing, those who know us will be amazed, and they will give glory to God. So, today, hear the Word being taught, determine to receive your healing, and don’t let any obstacle stand in your way. Are you facing a test of sickness or of anything else today? Just know this: God wants to turn your test into a testimony! Everyone faces tests, trials, and temptations at some point in their life. Why? One reason is that Satan is the god of this world system, and he’s just looking for opportunities to bring hardship into people’s lives. The good news, though, is this: our Lord has given us a way of escape from every test and every trial. Thank God! Today I want to share five steps for turning every test into a testimony: 1. Rejoice! Most people respond to a trial with fear, anger, or discouragement. They ask questions like, “Why me?” or “What did I do to deserve this?” We must remember that trials are not punishments from God. They come because we live in a fallen world. So why should we rejoice? Because every trial is an opportunity for spiritual growth. Trials actually strengthen our faith! In James 1:2-4 (NKJV) we read, My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. The Bible clearly says that we are to rejoice when we face a test or trial. It’s an opportunity to prove that God’s Word works! If life was always easy street, we wouldn’t grow as much spiritually, and His Word wouldn’t have opportunities to prove it works in our lives. 2. Rely on God, not yourself. In a natural sense, we tend to rely on our own strength in living our lives. But God wants us to learn a different way: to rely on Him. That takes trust! Learning to trust God brings benefits. When we rely on Him in the small areas of daily life, we become better equipped to trust Him for more serious tests, such as terminal diseases. Jeremiah 17:7-8 (AMPC) explains the benefits of trusting God: [Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit. 3. Remember God’s promises. We cannot get to the other side of a test without storing God’s Word in our hearts and then acting on it. The power to overcome every test and trial is only found in His Word. And the way we get His Word into our hearts is through meditating upon it. God instructed Joshua (Josh. 1:8 NKJV) about this: This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. The purpose of meditation is to give us the power to act upon God’s Word—to be a doer of the Word. Acting upon the Word of God is the way to pass every test. In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught us how to handle the storms of life: “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” Matt 7:24-27 NKJV 4. Respond in faith. Jesus also taught us how to use our faith for the tests of life. “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” Mark 11:23 NKJV When you are facing a test, telling everyone you know about it will not get you to the other side. Talking TO the test in faith, however, WILL bring you out of it. We need to learn to talk to the mountain instead of about it! What do we say to the mountain? God’s Word! He has given it to us as a weapon against every fiery dart of the wicked one. How do we use this weapon? With our mouth! We must command the problem to be removed from our life, in Jesus’ name. He gave us the authority to do this. Speak the Word only—speak the desired outcome, and hold fast to saying it, no matter what you feel or see. 5. Release your testimony. Psalm 66:16 NLT says, Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what he did for me. Your testimony does three things: - It gives glory to God. - It encourages others to believe God. - It keeps your faith strong. In Revelation 12:11 the apostle John said, And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. I realize that this scripture is referring to the testimony of Jesus, and certainly we should never let fear of death keep us from testifying that He is Lord. But we also know that without the blood of Jesus, there would be no rescue from the trials of life. And God needs our witness, or confession of faith, for the power of Jesus’ blood to work in our behalf. As you apply these five principles to the tests of life, you will come out victorious every time, in Jesus’ name! If you have disease in your body, I want you to know that you can be well! Any sickness is disease of some sort. What is disease? It is the opposite of ease, or the lack of ease. If your body has any sickness, it is lacking ease. Do you want relief from disease? Do you want your body to be at ease again? Most people want relief from troubling symptoms. They don’t want to be disturbed in their bodies. They want to be at ease! I have great news for you: God wants you to be well and free of disease even more than you want to be well! He wanted it so much, in fact, that He provided healing through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus. Here are just a few of many scriptures proving this: Psalm 107:20 says, He sent His word and healed them. Jesus is the Word that God sent! 1 Peter 2:24 says, referring to Jesus, …by whose stripes you were healed. Jesus’ stripes healed us! And even before Jesus came, Isaiah prophesied, The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 So, your healing is an accomplished fact in the mind of God. He already sent Jesus, Jesus already bore stripes on His body, and He already defeated the enemy in hell—the source of sickness. Even though from God’s perspective healing is accomplished, every person must receive it for themselves by faith. God doesn’t force His goodness on us. It’s our free will to receive! I always encourage people to use their faith and accept the healing that belongs to them. However, when it comes to receiving divine healing, there’s something more you must know: Divine healing WILL NOT flow if you are worrying about your body! Worry is a major hindrance to healing. Why? Let’s look at what Jesus taught about worry. In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” Matt 6:25-27 NLT Your life includes your health! Jesus said we can’t lengthen our life by worrying. Worry doesn’t just fail to lengthen our lives. It actually opposes faith and works against it. Nobody can receive divine healing by faith while also worrying about their symptoms. As long as you are worrying about your health, or whether or not you will be healed, you will not be able to release faith to receive what belongs to you. Worry hinders your faith. Jesus did not just suggest we don’t worry. He commanded us not to! Therefore, if we continue to worry, it is actually a sin. Here is another passage that instructs us on what to do with worry. 1 Peter 5:7 AMPC says, Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. Notice that this does not say to cast “some” of your worries on Him. It says to cast ALL of them. And it also tells us how often to cast them: once and for all! So, this is not something we should do every day or every week. We need to make a one-time decision that we are not going to worry about anything anymore! When you have disease in your body, the temptation is great to worry about it. You’re tempted to worry about how to get relief. You’re tempted to worry if you will recover. You’re tempted to worry about your quality of life. And you might be tempted to worry about how on earth you will ever give up worrying! Since worry will hinder your healing, I want to give you scriptural steps to live worry free. Phil 4:6-8 NKJV says, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 1. Recognize worried thoughts. The only way you will recognize worried thoughts is if you pay attention. You must be aware of what you are dwelling on throughout the day. God’s thoughts never lead to worry. His Word only leads you to peace. Satan’s thoughts always lead to worry. So, if you catch yourself worrying and lacking peace, you know the source of that isn’t God! 2. Every time a worried thought comes, speak to it. Worry is fear in disguise. Resist fear and you will resist worry. Say, “Fear, I resist you in Jesus’ name. I refuse to fear or worry.” As Paul instructed us, bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor. 10:5). 3. Take what you’re tempted to worry about to God in prayer. Time in prayer will lead you into the peace of God. Prayer and thanksgiving are simply talking to God and acknowledging that He is greater than the problem you face. Tell the Lord that you choose to believe His Word over the devil’s lies. Boldly declare: “I believe I am healed by the stripes of Jesus, and since I’m healed, I no longer have anything to worry about!” 4. Spend time daily meditating upon healing scriptures. Become acquainted with God’s Word through time reading and meditating upon it. Then you will know God’s thoughts, which lead you into peace. The more you know God’s Word, the quicker you’ll recognize when a thought is full of worry. Any thought that is not a good report is to be rejected. Meditate upon the truth that God cares about you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. As you keep your burdens and cares upon the Lord, where they belong, He will take good care of you. And healing power will be free to flow in your body. If you’re facing a situation today that you believe is hopeless, I want you to know that God can turn it around! It doesn’t matter if it’s a chronic illness, a financial need, or a diagnosis that says you only have a short time to live. None of these is more powerful than the power of God! You see, with God all things are possible to them that believe! There are many stories of hopeless situations in the Bible that were turned around through faith in God. I want to share some stories today, both from the Bible and personally, to help build your faith for your own situation. The story of the epileptic boy: Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit. And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.” He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.” Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth. So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:17-23 In that day and age, there was no medicine or medical help to relieve symptoms of seizures. Can you imagine how devastating it would be for a parent to live through episodes of seizures in their beloved child, ongoing for many years? This would have been classified as a hopeless situation for this father. But Jesus came along and changed everything! Initially, this man had his eyes on what Jesus could do. He asked, “Jesus, is there anything You can do to help us?” But Jesus turned it around and asked, “Can you believe?” The question that remains for us today is, “What can you believe?” According to Jesus, all things are possible to him who believes! How many things? Some things? No—all things! The most serious situation you can face can be changed if you will only believe! Many people look at situations and say, “That’s impossible!” But with God, there is no such thing as an impossibility. There was a time when King Hezekiah faced an impossible situation. Here is the story: In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.’” Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord, and said, “Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. And the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying, “Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years.”’ Isaiah 38:1-5 There is nothing more impossible than finding out you will die and not live! The Lord was not pronouncing judgment on Hezekiah; He was simply giving him a picture of the future without supernatural intervention. I want you to notice Hezekiah’s response to this news. He turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord. Hezekiah could only pray according to the revelation he had under the Old Covenant. But he was earnest, and his tears revealed that he was repentant. He wasn’t perfect by any means, but he humbled himself before the Lord. He reminded the Lord of his merits. He did not focus on his faults. If you’re facing a diagnosis or report that says you have to die, I want you to know it can be turned around! But you will have to bring God’s Word before Him and remind Him and yourself of what He has said regarding your healing. If you have sin in your life, you will have to repent of it. Then focus on who you are and what you have in Christ. James 5:16 says, The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. In the desperate situations of life, we cannot afford to be passive. We must diligently and fervently pray and seek the Lord. That is how we turn a hopeless situation around! I have faced a few hopeless situations in my life. The most prominent was many years ago when my oldest daughter was five months old. She fell in her day cradle, hitting the side of her head very hard. Her head began to swell and she would not stop crying. So we took her to the hospital to be examined. After testing, she was diagnosed with a depressed fractured skull and a subdural hematoma—that means she was bleeding between her brain and skull. The doctors told us she could either die or have brain damage, and they planned on emergency surgery by morning. My husband and I stood on God’s Word with a violent faith. Mattew 11:12 says, “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.” We refused to say anything contrary to the Word of God and prayed in the spirit all night long. By morning, the testing was repeated and every trace of bleeding had disappeared. The neurosurgeon himself told us we had received a miracle! God is no respecter of persons. What God did for the epileptic boy, and for Hezekiah, and for me, He will do for you, if you will only believe! If you’re suffering from sickness or pain today, I know you want to be well! And more importantly, God wants you to be well! But sadly, for so many, this seems like an impossible, far-off dream. You must know that healing and health are more than a dream. They are an attainable reality for all who will believe! However, before you can believe God, we will have to expose some lies that may be hindering your faith. Truth comes from God, and lies come from Satan. Jesus told us that the devil is the father of lies. He said in John 8:44, “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.” Thoughts and words that keep us from receiving our healing are lies from the devil! Satan doesn’t want any person to receive of the goodness of God, so he continually tries to shield us from truth. We see from the Bible that Satan and God are polar opposites! God cannot lie! Num 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” By looking at the truth today, I want to help you dispel the lies that Satan has perpetrated to keep you from receiving healing. 1. My healing may not be God’s will. Some people pray for healing by saying, “If it be thy will”. This prayer is unnecessary, because God has plainly told us in His Word that it’s His will to heal us. A sinner would never pray, “Lord, save me if it be Thy will.” That’s because we all know the Word of God teaches that God is not willing that any should perish. When you know the will of God in a matter, it is settled. Faith comes from knowing the will of God. In the same manner, the Bible tells us that Jesus already paid the price for our healing. It is settled. Matt 8:16-17 says, When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses." If God didn’t want us healed, Jesus would not have taken our sicknesses when He bore our sins. It is definitively the will of God that you be healed now! 2. It’s too late for me. I’ve had this disease for far too long. The only reason you’ve had that disease for a long time is because you have lacked revelation of the truth, or you have failed to act on the truth you know. Once faith comes, you can receive what already belongs to you – no matter how long you’ve had symptoms in your body. We have many examples in the Bible of people who were healed after having had disease for many years. Luke 13:11-13 says, And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, "Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity." And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. Another time, Jesus healed a man at the pool of Bethesda. Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, "Do you want to be made well?" The sick man answered Him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me." Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your bed and walk." And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. John 5:5-9 Don’t let the lie that it’s too late keep you from your healing today! 3. I’ve made too many mistakes. The Bible teaches us that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Every person that has ever lived, except Jesus, has sinned. That means we qualify for a Savior! I have good news for you – all you have to do is confess your sins, and God will forgive you and cleanse you. 1 John 1:9 tells us, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. One of the greatest lies the enemy tells people is that they’ve messed up too much and God won’t hear them anymore. It’s a strategy – a deception – to keep you from the goodness of God. God is so merciful and loving and kind. He will forgive anybody of anything if they will truly repent and turn to Him with all their heart. If this describes you, you will find that once you repent and draw near to God, healing will freely flow and make you whole. Forgiveness and healing go hand in hand. Jesus saw a paralytic man lowered in front of him while He was teaching. He said to the man, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” The following is the Biblical account: And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, "Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?" But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, "Why do you reason about these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Arise, take up your bed and walk'? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins" — He said to the paralytic, "I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house." Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!" Mark 2:6-12 Most people have never seen anything like this, and it’s because they believe the lies of Satan. I want to encourage you today to start trusting God’s Word as absolute truth. Don’t go by how you feel or what you’ve done wrong. Believe the truth that God forgives and heals, and He will forgive and heal you today!
