  • Forgiveness & Healing Are a Package Deal!

When it comes to the subject of divine healing, one of the greatest difficulties is getting people to see that it’s always God’s will to heal. Many would agree that God can and does heal, but they dispute the truth that it’s always His will to heal. The reason for this is that they place their own experience or the experiences of other people above the written Word of God.   I agree that many do not receive their healing. But this is not because God decided He would not heal them that time. It is interesting to note the very same people who believe it’s not God’s will to heal them will spend time and money to seek medical treatment. If they really believe it’s not God’s will to heal them, why would they try to get out of the will of God and seek healing through medicine?   One reason is that everybody wants relief from sickness and disease. I think we can all agree that sickness is not a GOOD thing. God gives us good gifts, and healing and forgiveness are a few of them. Most Christians believe that it is always God’s will to forgive, but not all believe it’s always God’s will to heal. Let me show you how God has made forgiveness and healing a package deal!   Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Ps 103:2-3 NKJV   Under the Old Covenant, the Lord stated He forgives ALL our iniquities, and heals ALL our diseases. Our covenant today is a new and better covenant. So how could we have less forgiveness or less healing than the Old Covenant?   Now let’s look at what Jesus had to say about this: So He got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own city. Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you." And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, "This Man blasphemes!" But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Arise and walk'? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins" — then He said to the paralytic, "Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house." And he arose and departed to his house. Matthew 9:1-7 NKJV   Jesus was saying that it’s just as easy to receive healing as it is to receive forgiveness. And He proved this by the fact that the paralytic received his forgiveness and healing at one time. Remember what Psalm 103 says—He forgives ALL our iniquities and He heals ALL our diseases. Healing and forgiveness go hand in hand. God's Will For Your Health and How to Receive Your Healing Isaiah 53:4-5 from the Amplified Classic translation says this: Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy].   But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.   In this passage of scripture, we see the reasons Jesus suffered for us: 1.     He bore our sicknesses and weaknesses for us. 2.     He bore the punishment of our transgressions (sins). 3.     He bore our mental anguish and gave us peace.   The passage closes by stating, “By His stripes we are healed and made whole.” These were all paid for at one time. Just as much as we are forgiven, we are healed. And to prove that this does not mean spiritual healing, it is repeated in the New Testament in Matthew chapter 8. Here, Jesus healed a leper, a centurion’s servant, Peter’s mother-in-law, and then all who came to Him that same evening. Immediately following all these healings, it says:   When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses." Matt 8:16-17 NKJV   Jesus healed all these people to fulfill what Isaiah said in Isaiah 53. His healings show that “with the stripes that wounded Him we are healed” does not mean spiritual healing, but rather physical healing. I encourage you to read the entire chapter to see all the different people who were healed by Jesus.   Here is another very enlightening passage in the New Testament: Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. James 5:14-16 NKJV   I love the question: “Is anyone among you sick?” It really implies that there may not be any.  And because the early church understood their covenant of healing, there were not many sick. However, if someone happens to be under attack with sickness, here is the solution: Pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of Jesus. And the prayer of faith will “save” the sick.   The word “save” is translated from the Greek word “sozo,” which means to heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole. So we can rightly interpret that the prayer of faith will HEAL the sick and he will be forgiven! Again, forgiveness and healing are together—a package deal!   I trust you are beginning to see that it’s the plan of God for all to be forgiven and to be healed.   Isn’t it time for you to receive and enjoy your forgiveness and healing? • Is Healing God's Will For Me?

Satan is the originator of sickness and disease. Before the fall of Adam, there was no sickness, disease, or pain. One preacher said it this way: “Sickness is the foul offspring of its father, Satan and its mother, sin.” God never puts sickness on anybody. He is a loving heavenly Father and wants His children well.  He made provision for us to be well.   Many would agree that God doesn’t make people sick, but they wonder if it is always the will of God to heal. Let me answer that by giving you a few solid scriptural references.   Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals ALL your diseases. (Ps 103:2-3 NKJV)   This passage does not say that healing is only for a selected few. The unspoken subject is “You”! It also says that the Lord heals ALL your diseases. Some would argue that this was the Old Testament. That is true, but the Bible says we have a new and better covenant today. How could something that’s new and better offer less than the old?   We know that Jesus was the will of God in action. I have challenged people to find even one place where Jesus ever told somebody, “I’m sorry, but it’s not My will to heal you this time.” You will not find Jesus turning any person away who came to Him for healing. And He will not turn you away either! One of the greatest chapters in the New Testament that reveals the nature and will of the Father is Matthew chapter 8.   When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean." Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. (Matt 8:1-3 NKJV)   Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented." And Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him." (Matt 8:5-7 NKJV)   Now when Jesus had come into Peter's house, He saw his wife's mother lying sick with a fever. So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them. (Matt 8:14-15 NKJV) When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses." (Matt 8:16-17 NKJV)   In every one of these situations, Jesus responded with compassion and healing. He did not differentiate between a hopeless leper and Peter’s mother-in-law. He healed ALL who were sick in fulfillment of prophecy.   Jesus plainly taught through His Words and His actions that sickness and disease come from the enemy, Satan. God wants His children loosed from Satan’s bondages! God wants YOU healed of satanic oppression.   It's Always God's Will to Heal You! The following account from Luke illustrates the will of God beautifully: Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, "Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity." And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, "There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day." The Lord then answered him and said, "Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it? So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound — think of it — for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?" And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him. (Luke 13:10-17 NKJV)   This woman had a spirit of infirmity, and notice where it came from: “whom Satan has bound.” Jesus also declared that this woman should be loosed and He gave two good reasons why: 1.     Satan had bound her  – God’s people should not be bound by sickness or disease, because Jesus already paid the price for our healing. 2.     She was a daughter of Abraham – she had a covenant with God. Under the New Covenant, those who are born again are sons and daughters of God.   The Bible also teaches that those who belong to Christ are the seed of Abraham.   And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Gal 3:29 NKJV)   If the woman who was a daughter of Abraham ought to be loosed, then New Covenant children of God ought to be loosed!   The next time Satan tries to bind you with sickness, you don’t have to accept it. You can be healed, because healing is the will of God for you! • Where Does Sickness Come From?

As a registered nurse, I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to sickness and disease. People long for health and healing more than almost anything else in life. Although I have not been a sickly person, even as a child I dreamed of an existence where there was no sickness or disease. So where does sickness come from and why are people sick? These are very important questions that need clear scriptural answers. You see, in order to receive healing from God, the first thing that must be established is the origin of sickness and disease. Jesus said: John 10:10 NKJV The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. This scripture reveals to us that anything that steals, kills, or destroys comes from Satan. Sickness and disease have never blessed anybody’s life. Rather, they have stolen from people, they have killed people, and they have destroyed people’s lives. I want to state emphatically that God is NOT the author of sickness and disease. Jesus said that He came to give us a life that’s filled with abundance. Thank God one of the reasons Jesus came was to reveal the will of the Father God. If we want to know what God is like and see Him at work, we must look at Jesus. Jesus is the will of God in action. I challenge anyone to find even one place in the gospels where Jesus put sickness or oppression on people. The Gospels reveal that Jesus healed and blessed people everywhere He went. Acts 10:38 KJV How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. We see from this passage that healing is doing good. We also see that people with sickness were oppressed by the devil. The devil is responsible for sickness and oppression. Jesus does good and heals people who are oppressed by the devil. This means that everyone who was healed under the ministry of Jesus was oppressed by the devil. In the same manner, God is not responsible for natural disasters in the earth. It’s difficult for some people to understand that the laws that govern this earth today came into being through the fall of Adam. When Adam sinned, the curse came upon the earth. There was no sickness or disease in the garden of Eden before the fall of man, and there is no sickness in Heaven. Because people don’t understand this, they often blame God for sickness, accidents, tragedy, and even storms and natural disasters that occur. Insurance policies label these events as “acts of God”. However, they are not acts of God. They are acts of the devil. Watch Christine Miller's teaching on "The Origin of Sickness". Jesus never brought any storms on people. He rebuked storms. One time a storm had arisen on the Sea of Galilee and Jesus was asleep in the back of the ship. The disciples awoke Him and said, “Master, carest Thou not that we perish?” Jesus arose and rebuked the wind. He wasn’t rebuking something God did. He was rebuking something the devil had stirred up. The way some people or even ministers talk, you would be led to believe that God and the devil swapped jobs. God is still good and He never contradicts Himself. Why would Jesus tell us to heal the sick if God wanted some to stay sick? Mark 16:15-18 NKJV And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." This would confuse people if it was God’s will for only some to be well. Therefore, it can’t be the will of God for any in the church to stay sick. Here’s another great passage. The word “save” in the Greek also means heal. James 5:14-15 NKJV Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Jesus’ attitude toward sickness was warfare with Satan. He dealt with sickness the same way He dealt with demons. Since sickness and disease are of the devil, we must follow in the footsteps and attitude of Jesus and deal with disease as Jesus dealt with it. He commanded it to leave, so we command it to leave. You don’t have to put up with another day of sickness because it did not originate with God!
